2003-05-26 - (Sudbury, Ontario -- May 26, 2003) The Sudbury Royal Canadian Mounted Police assisted by Industry Canada, executed a Search Warrant under the Radio Communications Act and the Criminal Code of Canada.

Terry BÉLANGER of James St. in Mattawa, Ontario has been charged on several counts under the Radio Communications Act and the Criminal Code of Canada. The RCMP seized numerous pieces of equipment related to reprogramming access cards for satellite television.

"Illegal satellite systems and the theft of satellite signals is causing Canadian businesses hundreds and thousands of dollars every day. Many companies are feeling the financial negative impact by the seemingly unchecked illegal satellite systems presently in operation," said S/Sgt. Claude Faucher, Officer in Charge of the RCMP Sudbury Detachment. "Theft of a satellite signal is no different than any other theft. Theft is theft."

BÉLANGER has been released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in court on August 13, 2003 in Mattawa, Ontario.
