RCMP SEIZES RADIO COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT
2003-09-15 - City of Greater Sudbury, Ontario - September 15th, 2003. - The Sudbury Royal Canadian Mounted Police executed a Search Warrant under the Radiocommunications Act and the Criminal Code of Canada.
Kwong Siu WU of Ridout Street South in London (Ontario) is facing charges under the Radiocommunications Act and Criminal Code of Canada. The RCMP seized multiple Access cards (Directv and Dishnetwork) and other items (HU Loaders, unloopers, etc.) related to the piracy and theft of telecommunication, after Mr WU was observed selling the equipment at the New Sudbury Shopping Mall.
The value of the seizure is estimated at approximately $18,000 plus $12,000 in cash (CDN).
Kwong Siu WU has been released on a Recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court in January 28th, 2004 in the City of Greater Sudbury, Ontario.
"Illegal satellite systems and the theft of satellite signals is causing Canadian businesses hundreds and thousands of dollars every day. Many companies are feeling the financial negative impact by the seemingly unchecked illegal satellite systems presently in operation," said S/Sgt. Claude Faucher, Officer in Charge of the RCMP Sudbury Detachment. "Theft of a satellite signal is no different than any other theft. Theft is theft."
