SEIZURE OF ILLEGAL DIRECT TO HOME SATELLITE DEVICES

CORNWALL, ON, Dec. 30 /CNW/ - On December 29, 2003 at 14:00 hrs., the RCMP, Federal Enforcement Section with the help of the Canadian Motion Picture (Distributors Association) Anti Piracy Section executed a search warrant on Edgar Street in Cornwall.

The search resulted in the seizure of numerous RCA Satellite Systems, Integrated receivers and Access cards specifically designed to defeat or bypass the scrambling system in Direct Satellite programming system. The devices are also used in the decoding of encrypted signals that emanate from American broadcasters. As the search warrant was being executed, several customers came knocking at the door looking for service while others who had parked on the street soon realized what was happening and left.

Charges under Section 9(1)(c) and Section 10(2) of the Radiocommunication Act and of committing mischief in relation to Data  and altering Data under the Criminal Code of Canada have been laid against: Chad WHITE (35) of Cornwall, Ontario. He will appear in court February 9, 2003 in Cornwall, Ontario
