RAID AGAINST SATELLITE TELEVISION PIRACY

Québec City, Thursday, April 22, 2004 -Yesterday afternoon, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police put an end to the unlawful activities of individuals who were selling equipment used to illegally receive satellite television signals. The RCMP arrested 1 female and 8 male subjects aged between 25 and 45. This police operation, known as "Project Console", was conducted in Montreal and Quebec City in co-operation with Industry Canda, Film and Video Security Office, and the staff of Bell Express Vu.

In the Quebec region, this operation has led to the execution of eight (8) search warrants in five (5) residences and three (3) places of business specializing in electronics. The police officers seized software, Bell Express Vu access cards, computers and other types of equipment used to steal satellite television signals, valued at 175,000$ and 7 vehicles valued at 100,000$, drugs, firearms and more than $50,000 in cash.

Two searchs were also conducted yesterday in the Montreal area and led to the seizure of equipment used to steal satellite television signals. More than 11,000$ CAN and 3,000$ US were also seized. Two males subjects were arrested in Montreal.

All the subjects arrested as a result of this police operation will be summoned to appear in court.
