Richmond: On Saturday, April 30th, 2005, police officers from the Richmond R.C.M.P. Economic Crime Section and investigators from the B.C. Film Classification Office attended a business operating under the name of " Paramount Computer Service Company" at Admiralty Mall, Unit 1093 - 8700 McKim Way. The business was suspected of selling unauthorized (pirated) copies of motion picture films and non-approved explicit adult pornographic movies.
B.C. Film Classification Investigators conducted an inspection of the business and subsequently seized over 1,000 non-approved explicit adult movies. In addition, the business did not possess a licence to sell approved pornographic materials.
Richmond Police executed three (3) search warrants in
relating to the operations of this business and seized approximately 1,000 DVDs believed to contain unauthorized (pirated) copies of North American motion picture films. Of note, the business was selling numerous movies that are in current theatrical release. This included movies such as: " Richmond ", "Hotel Rwanda", " Hostage" , and "Robots". In addition, 75,000 blank DVD's/CD's were located in a nearby storage facility. Police believe that these blank DVDs would eventually be used by the business to create additional illegal copies. Charged with 10 counts under section 42(1)(b) of the Copyright Act: "sell or rent or offer or expose for sale or rent an infringing copy of a dramatic work where copyright subsists"

The investigation is continuing and Police anticipate further charges will be laid in the near future.

In addition, LAU is currently before
Richmond Provincial Courtcharged with 13 counts of Section 42(1)(b) of the Copyright Act. These previous charges were the result of a search warrant being executed at Unit 1183-8700 Mckim Wayon June 23 2003.
