RCMP Seize Pirated
Compact Disks, Video Games and DVDs
SHERBROOKE,
Friday, October 28, 2005 - On Tuesday, Royal Canadian
Mounted Police officers conducted a search in Sherbrooke,
putting an
end to the illicit activities of a 25-year-old man involved in the
illegal production and distribution of compact disks, video games
and
movies in DVD format.
More than 300
compact disks, 150 X-Box games and 140 DVDs, all pirated,
were seized during the search. Officers also seized equipment
used to
illegally reproduce such items.
The Sherbrooke
man was arrested and interrogated by the officers. He
should be summoned shortly to appear in court on charges of making
and
distributing infringing copies of copyright works under the Copyright
Act.
The
investigation was conducted by the Federal Enforcement Section of
the RCMP Sherbrooke Detachment, which is responsible for enforcing
federal statutes regarding copyright, trade marks and
radiocommunication. The police officers working in this section
investigate
cases of illegal
reproduction and distribution of works
protected by law.
The Royal
Canadian Mounted Police invites citizens to report any

involved
in
