(Montreal Gazette - November 28, 2005)

Police seized more than 2,000 contraband CDs, DVDs and Xbox games, and arrested a man yesterday in Montreal.

From latest releases to classics, the man who made illegal copies sold the discs on the internet or personally, police said.

"He had the latest Harry Potter, the newest Les Boys, all those movies that are still in theatres," RCMP Constable Sylvain L'Heureux said.

"They were't of very good quality. They were likely filmed at the theatre with a small video camera".

Police also seized an Xbox console that was used to copy the video games.

The man, whom police have not identified, is to be charged under the Canadian Copyright Act for illegal copying of protected works.

Conviction carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $1-million fine.

Police said they believe the suspect is a specialist in pirating CDs and DVDs, but is not part of a piracy network.
