RCMP SEIZE CONTRABAND TOBACCO AND EQUIPMENT LINKED TO SATELLITE TV PIRACY

Moncton, N.B., Friday, October 19, 2007 - On October 16, 2007 the RCMP "J" Division Customs and Excise Section North, and Federal Enforcement Sections of Moncton, Bathurst and Saint John executed two search warrants at homes in Lakeville, and Dieppe.

The searches resulted in the seizure of more than 650 cartons of contraband tobacco products and numerous items associated to commercial level satellite television piracy. These included four computers, four modified Bell ExpressVu receivers, seven illegally modified Free to Air card programmers, components for the manufacture of illegal access cards, and several satellite dishes.

The investigation also resulted in the seizure of an additional 14 illegally modified Free to Air receivers from people believed to be clients of the suspects, residing in the Lakeville, Dieppe, Shediac and Barachois areas. Charges are expected against at least three adults.

The searches took place following a lengthy investigation involving RCMP investigators, investigators from Industry Canada, and Bell ExpressVu Security.

The investigation is continuing.
